RRB ALP CBT 2 Part B Syllabus 2026

Part B is a qualifying test and contains questions from the relevant trade syllabus prescribed by the Directorate General of Training.

The qualifying requirement is 35% for all candidates.

Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualifications are required to answer questions related to their respective trade.

Candidates with Degree or Diploma qualifications have to select one trade according to their engineering discipline.

Trade-Wise RRB ALP Part B

Engineering DisciplineTrade/Subject
Electrical EngineeringElectrician, Instrument Mechanic, Wireman, Armature & Coil Winder, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic
Electronics EngineeringElectronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV)
Mechanical EngineeringFitter, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Tractor Mechanic, Mechanic (Diesel), Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic, Heat Engine, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic
Automobile EngineeringMechanic (Motor Vehicle), Tractor Mechanic, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic
Exam Tip

Part B is qualifying, but it should not be ignored. A candidate who performs well in Part A still needs to clear the required qualifying marks in Part B.

RRB ALP CBAT Syllabus 2026

Candidates who qualify for the next stage after CBT 2 are called for the Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) as per the prescribed shortlisting criteria.

CBAT is different from a normal academic examination. Instead of testing formulas or factual knowledge, it focuses on aptitude and abilities relevant to the ALP role.

The aptitude areas include:

  • Memory Ability
  • Following Directions
  • Depth Perception
  • Observation Ability
  • Speed and Accuracy
  • Decision-Making Ability
  • Visual and Spatial Ability

Important CBAT Points

  • CBAT is conducted in English and Hindi.
  • There is no negative marking.
  • Candidates have to qualify each test battery separately.
  • A minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery is required.
  • Candidates who qualify the required stages are shortlisted for CBAT according to the prescribed recruitment criteria.

Preparation Tip

Start CBAT practice before CBT 2 is over. Simple exercises involving memory, observation, direction and concentration can be included in your daily routine.

RRB ALP Final Merit 2026

The revised recruitment process gives equal weightage to CBT 2 Part A and CBAT.

The final merit calculation uses:

  • 50% weightage: CBT 2 Part A
  • 50% weightage: CBAT

Therefore, candidates should prepare for both stages seriously.

A common mistake is to focus entirely on CBT 2 and think about aptitude preparation only after qualifying. Starting CBAT practice early gives candidates more time to become comfortable with the test format.

How to Prepare for RRB ALP 2026

Preparing for ALP becomes much easier when the syllabus is divided into manageable sections.

1. Make a Topic-Wise Checklist

Write down every topic from the syllabus and divide it into three categories:

  • Strong
  • Needs Practice
  • Not Started

This gives you a clear picture of your preparation.

2. Build Your Basics First

Start with fundamental concepts in Mathematics, Reasoning and Science. Technical candidates should revise their trade fundamentals alongside these subjects.

3. Practise Every Day

Reading the syllabus is not enough. Solve questions after completing every topic.

For Mathematics and Reasoning, regular practice is especially important for improving speed.

4. Give Special Attention to Technical Subjects

CBT 2 introduces Basic Science and Engineering and the relevant trade syllabus. Candidates should therefore keep technical preparation running throughout their study plan.

5. Solve Previous-Year Questions

Previous-year questions can help you understand:

  • Question style
  • Difficulty level
  • Frequently tested concepts
  • Time required for different sections

6. Take Mock Tests

Initially, take sectional tests. Once most of the syllabus is complete, move towards full-length mocks.

After every mock test, spend time analysing your mistakes rather than immediately starting another test.

7. Revise Regularly

Keep one day or a few hours every week specifically for revision. Formula revision, technical concepts and Science facts can otherwise be forgotten easily.

RRB ALP 90-Day Preparation Plan

First 30 Days: Build the Base

Focus on:

  • Mathematics fundamentals
  • Reasoning basics
  • 10th-level Science
  • Basic Engineering concepts
  • Trade fundamentals

Days 31–60: Practice and Strengthen

Focus on:

  • Topic-wise questions
  • Previous-year questions
  • Technical questions
  • Basic Science and Engineering
  • Sectional mock tests

Days 61–75: Start Intensive Mock Practice

Now increase the number of full-length tests.

Work particularly on:

  • Time management
  • Accuracy
  • Calculation speed
  • Weak topics
  • Avoiding unnecessary guesses

Days 76–90: Final Revision

During the last phase:

  • Revise formulas
  • Revise Science
  • Revise Engineering concepts
  • Practise trade questions
  • Take mock tests
  • Practise CBAT aptitude
  • Focus on weak areas

Avoid trying to cover a large number of completely new topics at the last minute.

RRB ALP Daily Study Routine

A candidate preparing seriously can divide the day like this:

Subject/ActivitySuggested Time
Mathematics1.5 Hours
Reasoning1 Hour
General Science1 Hour
Basic Science & Engineering1 Hour
Technical Trade1.5 Hours
Mock/Question Practice1 Hour
Revision30 Minutes

This is only a sample routine. Candidates can increase or decrease the duration according to their preparation level.

Common Mistakes Candidates Should Avoid

Ignoring the Revised Pattern

Always prepare according to the latest syllabus and exam structure.

Leaving Technical Preparation for the End

Technical subjects require repeated revision. Starting them only a few weeks before CBT 2 can make preparation stressful.

Treating Part B as Optional

Part B is qualifying, but candidates must clear the required percentage to continue in the recruitment process.

Ignoring CBAT

CBAT has an important role in the final merit calculation, so aptitude preparation should begin early.

Solving Questions Without Analysing Mistakes

A mock test is useful only when you understand why you got questions wrong.

Guessing Too Much

CBT 1 and CBT 2 have negative marking. Accuracy should always be kept in mind while attempting questions.
